The ISIDORe project started in 2022, aiming to provide access to services for fundamental infectious disease research in Europe and beyond.
As part of the project, Instruct-ERIC services were available to access for infectious disease research, in a variety of open calls. These included emergency calls on SARS-CoV-2 and Monkeypox, followed by a series of preparedness calls for potential epidemics:
Instruct has been an integral part of the ISIDORe project. With 43 scientific proposals funded through the project, and more than 50 individual structural biology services provided, Instruct has been able to collaborate with research teams around the world, and deliver access to cutting-edge technologies in the Instruct catalogue.
As of 2025, several papers have been published demonstrating the impact of the ISIDORe project at Instruct facilities. A selection of these publications can be found below:
A full summary and overview of selected publications can be found on the Instruct website, with testimonials from the researchers themselves. Find the scientific highlights below:
In addition to transnational access (TNA) to structural biology technology, ISIDORe also provided funding for Joint Research Activity (JRA) projects.
Structural biology researchers had the opportunity to develop new technologies and conduct pilot research between several facilities, enhancing collaboration between infectious disease researchers worldwide. Three JRAs have been organised with partners from Instruct facilities:
- JRA 1: Coordinated by EMBL-Grenoble, in partnership with CNB-CSIC, GUF and EMBL-EBI
- JRA 2: Coordinated by Medina "Res4PrioPath". Instruct partners: CIRMMP/CERM, IGBMC, University of Helsinki
- JRA 3: Organised by CERM/CIRMMP and Polo GGB
As part of the project, Instruct has hosted several webinars to showcase ISIDORe-funded access visits. These webinars have been organised as part of the Instruct monthly webinar series, Structure Meets Function, showcasing the latest in structural biology research.
The three ISIDORe webinars in series are:
Providing funded transnational, and national, access to structural biology technologies is part of Instruct’s core service. The field of infectious disease is a crucial one, highlighted further by the SARS-CoV-2 and Monkeypox outbreaks in recent years – ISIDORe has allowed Instruct to offer increased funding for this fundamental research.
Structural biology researchers in Instruct member countries and organisations can continue to receive funding for access to advanced technologies through Instruct.
