The GEMINI consortium (Brennecke/Haselbach/Klumpe/Pauli/Sarić) at the Vienna BioCenter is looking for a Cryo-ET Researcher and Coordinator to join its programme on in situ structural analysis of the germline.
This is a dual technology and coordination role. You would establish and support cryo-FIB and cryo-ET workflows across the consortium, operate and maintain a Hydra Bio cryo-FIB-SEM, contribute to technology-development projects with academic and industry partners, and help run the consortium day to day. If you have experience with cryo-ET and cryo-FIB milling, a collaborative mindset, and strong organizational skills, we would be delighted to hear from you. Plasma FIB experience is considered a plus.
The position is hosted at the IMP and IMBA in the beautiful city of Vienna, regularly voted one of the most livable cities in the world. The successful candidate will be fully embedded in the Klumpe lab. Salary is competitive and depends on experience.

Your profile
● Several years of relevant practical experience in cryo-ET (cryo-FIB milling, instrumentation)
● Experience operating and maintaining plasma focused ion beam instruments is a plus
● Strong technical expertise and enthusiasm for establishing, optimizing, and supporting advanced cryo-EM and cryo-ET workflows
● A collaborative mindset and interest in supporting researchers across multiple projects
● Excellent organizational skills and the ability to coordinate tasks and activities within a collaborative research consortium
● Motivation to learn new techniques and contribute to technology-development projects
● Ability to work effectively in a team in an international and interdisciplinary environment
Your tasks
● Cryo-FIB and cryo-ET workflow development and support: Generate data and establish, optimize, and support workflows for cryo-FIB and cryo-ET projects within GEMINI
● Instrument operation and maintenance: Operate and maintain the Hydra Bio cryo-FIB-SEM instrument.
● Technology development and collaboration: Participate in technology-development projects and collaborate with academic and industry partners.
● Consortium coordination: Contribute to the general management, coordination, and smooth operation of the GEMINI consortium.
The GEMINI research consortium brings together the laboratories of Julius Brennecke (IMBA), David Haselbach (IMP), Sven Klumpe (IMBA/IMP), Andrea Pauli (IMP, coordinator), and Andela Sarić (ISTA). The successful candidate will work closely with all GEMINI consortium partners and will be fully embedded in the Klumpe lab. The position will be hosted at the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP) and Institute of Molecular Biotechnology of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (IMBA) at the Vienna BioCenter in Vienna, Austria, an international research campus hosting universities, research institutes, and biotechnology companies.
